The Sudurpaschim Province (सुदूरपश्चिम प्रदेश) government has declared a public holiday for the entire province tomorrow, Friday. On the occasion of Olke festival, the state government has announced that tomorrow Friday will be a public holiday.
The Olke festival is being celebrated on the 1st of August in Sudurpaschim Province. It is customary to celebrate the Olke festival in the hilly districts of the Far West after the rain has ended. Olko means ‘gift’ or ‘koseli’.
This festival is characterized by giving karkala inner leaves, fruits, etc., eating sweets and applying mehndi on the hands as a sign of respect to the elders or senior citizens.
This festival has not been influenced by any religious or mythological inspiration and has remained as the original festival of the residents of this region.
