
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need for radical changes to make education modern, useful and employment-oriented.
At the 99th meeting of the Kathmandu University Assembly held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar today, Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Chancellor of the University, emphasized the need to create employment and produce self-employed human resources. He said that the efforts made by Kathmandu University for this purpose were positive.
He expressed the view that there is a need to increase the access of general students to health, education and other subjects and reconsider the scholarship of up to 75 percent that has been given only in medical education.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Vice-Chancellor of the University, Raghuji Pant, urged the implementation of the concerns and concerns raised by Prime Minister Oli for educational reform and transformation, and said that efforts will be made on behalf of the Ministry to make Nepal an educational hub.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle, said that work will be done in accordance with the policy of translating the concept of a teaching as well as research university into practice.
Grace list approved for convocation
The meeting has approved the grace list of 1,129 students who have obtained degrees at various levels under various schools for the second phase of the 30th convocation ceremony to be held in Dhulikhel on Jestha 10. There are 118 foreign students in the grace list.
The meeting has approved the program with an estimated budget of Rs 4.38 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 presented by Registrar Prof. Dr. Rajiv Shrestha. Similarly, the audit report of the last fiscal year and the progress report of this fiscal year have been approved.
The meeting has decided to nominate Ratna Koirala from among the donors, Prof. Dr. Divya Singh, former Dean of the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, from among the distinguished scholars, Community Health Specialist Dr. Rita Thapa, Vice Chancellor of Madhya Paschim University Prof. Dr. Dhruv Kumar Gautam, Psychiatrist Ananta Prasad Adhikari, and Dr. Bikash Adhikari from among the teachers of the university.
New blueprint for joint venture between the university and Dhulikhel Hospital
The meeting also passed a report with a new blueprint for the future joint venture between Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital. The report submitted by the facilitation committee formed under the coordination of National Planning Commission member Geeta Kumari Poudyal Adhikari to prepare a proposal with solutions to the mutual problems between the two institutions in the assembly meeting on Magh 4 was passed. According to the new blueprint, if the two institutions want to separate from the joint venture, each has to inform the other six years in advance.
In the book of the university’s 25-year journey
Immediately after the Senate meeting, Prime Minister Oli released Parts 1 and 2 of the book ‘Kathmandu University: The First 25 Years’ written by the founding registrar of the university, Dr. Sitaram Adhikari. Prime Minister Oli said that writing such a book by the personalities involved in establishing the university, which started from nothing, would help in understanding history.
