The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has proposed to conduct the Secondary Education Examination (SEDE) at the provincial level. The ministry made this proposal while submitting a report with its views on the School Education Bill currently under discussion in the parliamentary committee. Earlier, the bill related to school education initially registered by the government in the House of Representatives mentioned that the SEDE would be discontinued.

In the proposal submitted by Education, Science and Technology Minister Raghu G. Pant to the Education, Science and Information Technology Committee of the Parliament on Saturday, the ministry concluded that SEE is necessary to maintain uniformity in the examination system and evaluation criteria as SEDE can study in the education stream in the province.

Earlier, the committee members and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology expressed their views on the report submitted by the subcommittee formed by the parliamentary committee after discussing the controversial issues of the bill. The report submitted by the ministry mentions that the Early Childhood Education (ECD) should be made one year long, but the report submitted by the subcommittee mentions that the ECD should be made two years long.

Minister Pant told the meeting that the two-year ECD will add an annual financial burden of Rs 30 billion to the state, which the state cannot afford immediately. Similarly, the ministry has proposed to establish and operate private schools through educational trusts and companies, while it has been said that if private and institutional schools that were not operating even after obtaining permission from the government do not operate from the first academic session after the promulgation of this act, such permission will be automatically revoked.

The ministry has also proposed to revive the District Education Office and the Education Department at the center that were active in the district. However, some members of the committee have expressed disagreement, saying that the ministry has brought the proposal in a way that will reverse the federalism.

Despite the pressure to bring the School Education Act as soon as possible, the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the Parliament held a meeting on Saturday, despite the public holiday, and started discussing the bill. According to the agreement reached between the government and teachers, the School Education Bill should be passed by Parliament by Asad 15. Based on the same agreement, the teachers had ended their street agitation that had been going on for about a month.
