From Students to Changemakers: KU’s 30th Convocation Sparks Hope for Nepal’s Future

Kathmandu University (KU) is set to induct 1,129 students in the second phase of its 30th convocation ceremony in Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchok district. The convocation ceremony to be held on Friday will be chaired by Prime Minister and University Chancellor KP Sharma Oli, the university said in a press conference organized by KU today.

According to the information given at the conference, the chief guest will be Bendon Jikar, CEO of Mount Sinai Health Systems in the US, and the program will be attended by Education, Science and Technology Minister and Pro-Chancellor Raghuji Pant. KU spokesperson Ekkumaya Pun said that 163 students from the School of Arts, 102 from the School of Education, 68 from the School of Engineering, 110 from the School of Management, 661 from the School of Medical Sciences, and 25 from the School of Science will be inducted at the ceremony.

According to him, 14 PhD students, eight DM students, 10 MCh students, 69 MPhil students, 513 postgraduate students, four PGD students and 519 undergraduate students from the faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Management, Medical Sciences and Science of the university will be initiated.

Of the initiates, 50.93 percent are men and 49.07 percent are women. Similarly, 118 foreign students from Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives will be initiated, informed Spokesperson Pun. At the press conference, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Achyut Wagle, informed that for the first time in the history of KU, one person will be awarded the degree of ‘Doctor of Philosophy in Geomatics Engineering’ under the School of Engineering, 20 people will be awarded the degree of ‘Bachelor of Professional Hospitality’ under the School of Management, and one person will be awarded the degree of ‘Doctor of Medicine in Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine’ under the School of Medical Sciences, one person will be awarded the degree of ‘MSc in Community Health Nursing’, two people will be awarded the degree of ‘MSc in Psychiatric Nursing’, and five people will be awarded the degree of ‘Master of Psychotherapy in Musculoskeletal Psychotherapy’.

Up to the second phase of the 30th convocation ceremony, 47,831 people have passed from KU. Of these, 5,660 students are said to be foreign. Similarly, gold medals will be awarded to the best students of the university at the ceremony.

Dayaram Sinkhara, who has achieved the highest CGPA at the postgraduate level, will be honored with the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, Azal Sujkhu, who has achieved the highest CGPA at the undergraduate level, Juddha Bahadur Shrestha Gold Medal, Krishna Babu Bhattarai, who has achieved the highest CGPA at the MBA level, Rana Bahadur Shah Gold Medal, Tarun Agrawal, who has achieved the highest marks at the postgraduate level MS Orthopedics, Suyash Timalsina, who has achieved the highest marks at the postgraduate level MS Orthopedics, Maheshnath Parajuli Gold Medal, Yurisha Upadhyay, who has achieved the highest CGPA at the two-year postgraduate level under the School of Education, and Azal Sujkhu, who has achieved the highest CGPA at the undergraduate level (School of Management), will be honored with the Premraj Pant Gold Medal.
